At the dance, Stevonnie has another anxiety attack, after which Steven and Connie discuss whether they are lying to Kiki about their identity. In a March 2017 comic (written by Melanie Gillman and drawn by Katy Farina and Whitney Cogar), Stevonnie goes with supporting character Kiki Pizza to her school prom. They also appear in two episodes at the end of the show's fifth season. Other episodes in which Stevonnie plays a starring role include the third-season episode "Beach City Drift", in which they challenge Kevin to a car race the fourth-season episode " Mindful Education", in which Garnet teaches them mindfulness meditation to deal with difficult emotions and the fifth season's " Jungle Moon", in which they are stranded on an alien planet. In "Alone Together", Steven and Connie fuse for the first time, and Stevonnie enjoys the capabilities of their new body before having an anxiety attack at a party and fending off unwelcome advances from Kevin, an arrogant teenager. Stevonnie appeared only occasionally in episodes of Steven Universe. In a 2019 public service announcement about self-esteem and social media sponsored by Dove, Stevonnie shows an Instagram profile describing them as intersex and non-binary. Stevonnie is referred to using they/ them pronouns, and both male and female characters seem to be physically attracted to Stevonnie. This was also reflected by Ian Jones Quartey, who also called Stevonnie an experience, Stevonnie is voiced by actor and musician AJ Michalka. Besides challenging gender norms, as Sugar put it, Stevonnie serves as a metaphor for "terrifying firsts in a first relationship," the feeling of hitting puberty, and objectification. Steven Universe's creator, Rebecca Sugar, has responded to an inquiry on Stevonnie's gender-whether Stevonnie is agender, bigender, or something else-by stating that "Stevonnie is an experience! The living relationship between Steven and Connie." Sugar described Stevonnie as a complex and specific metaphor that becomes relatable as it takes shape in the form of a unique character. Steven and Connie identify as male and female respectively (although some have interpreted Steven as genderfluid), but Stevonnie's gender is difficult to describe. The episode "Alone Together", first broadcast January 15, 2015, focuses on protagonist Steven's first experience with fusion while dancing with his friend Connie. Fusion is used by the writers of the show as a metaphor for a range of types of intimacy and relationships. One of the core concepts in Steven Universe is a process referred to as "fusion", in which two or more Gem characters merge into one being who is physically larger and stronger. First introduced in the episode " Alone Together", Stevonnie only appears occasionally in the series and once in the limited epilogue series, Steven Universe Future. A "fusion" of the protagonist Steven Universe and his friend Connie Maheswaran, Stevonnie has the appearance of an androgynous young adult. Stevonnie ( / s t ə ˈ v ɒ n i/ stə- VON-ee) is a fictional character in the animated series Steven Universe and Steven Universe Future, created by Rebecca Sugar. Specialty UV inks, such as glitter inks, also are available. UV inks often contain additives to tailor the ink to the proper screen printing application. UV inks are commonly used in screen printing for decals, nameplates, signage, CDs, metal decoration, container decoration and automotive artwork, as well as for industrial applications. UV inks are used to print on smooth surfaces. The energy required by UV inks likely will continue to decrease as new light technologies, like LED lights, are used to cure UV inks. With fast curing under UV lights, screen printing shops that print with UV inks often will use less energy than shops using solvent or water-based inks that require large conveyor dryers. UV inks also don’t dry in the screen like water-based inks, so you’re less likely to waste ink. Lower ink usage. While UV inks usually cost more to purchase up front, screen printers generally see UV ink supplies go farther because there’s no solvent required. The ink allows printers to achieve extremely fine graphic details when screen printing with UV inks. UV inks are thin and generally call for printing through a finer screen mesh. Unlike their solvent-based counterparts, UV inks emit no volatile organic compounds during curing, making them a more environmentally-friendly and worker-friendly ink option. Faster production times. Because UV inks can be cured almost instantly, it can be faster and easier to produce UV prints, depending on the number of colors you need to print and the curing unit you have available. On top of that, the curing window for UV inks is more forgiving than solvent-based inks, making it very difficult to over-cure UV inks. For screen printers, that means faster production time. UV ink cures almost instantly when exposed to UV light. There are several reasons UV inks have come to dominate the screen printing ink market. In fact, in the United States, UV inks make up between 60 to 65 percent of ink sales in the screen printing industry. Since it was introduced, UV ink has grown to dominate the industrial screen printing market. The ink itself sits on top of the substrate, rather than settling in, making it ideal for printing on smooth surfaces. The inks also contain a photoinitiator that, when exposed to UV light, releases free radicals that enable the oligomers and monomers to bond, creating a solid ink image. The inks themselves are composed of solid monomers and oligomers – molecules and molecular complexes that determine the physical properties of the ink – as well as pigments and performance additives. How UV inks workĪs the name implies, UV inks cure under UV light. As always, use proper safety procedures when handling ink or chemical products including proper hand and eye protection. If you’re considering branching out your screen printing from textiles, UV inks can help open up new possibilities.įor those printers who are looking to branch out to different substrates to complement their lineup of garment prints, or those just researching a screen printing startup, it’s worth taking the time to learn about UV inks and how they can be used to augment an existing printing operation. The GEN series inks are easy to clean with most brands of screen wash or ink remover products. This includes dual cure, diazo, and photopolymer emulsions. The GEN series of inks can be used with all reputable emulsion brands that are for use with plastisol inks. Refer to mixing instructions from your additive supplier for proper mixing ratios and instructions. The GEN series of inks can be used with a variety of common additives such as reducers, stretch, puff, thickener, etc. They are equally at home on small manual presses or larger production automatic presses.Īlthough curing times and temperatures will vary depending on equipment, substrate, and environment, a general guideline would be to set curing temperature to 320f with an approximate dwell time of 60 seconds. Excellent results can also be seen on newer Tri-Blend shirts, although depending on ink and substrate color an underbase print may be beneficial. The GEN series inks are best suited for 100% cotton and cotton blend shirts (50/50). GEN inks also may be used to print conventional cold peel transfers. Although most GEN inks are opaque, optimum opacity can achieved with Super Opaque (SO) Inks. Nonetheless, in reading these poems, I find reflections on, and insight into, my own experiences. I am aware, as many people are, that for people and places in the world, the challenges are huge and sometimes extremely harrowing, compared to my own. Though of course everyone’s individual experience of this situation is unique. These poems were written during Lockdown and the Coronavirus pandemic, at a time when it seemed the whole country, and in fact the whole world was going through the same crisis. They read alongside poets who submitted to Ledbury Poetry Festival’s online call out. The event featured a fascinating selection of Lockdown inspired poems, including poets commissioned by LPF, Naomi Shihab Nye, Sarala Estruch, Suzannah Evans, Elaine Beckett and Kim Moore. On Sunday 5 July 2020 there was a Poetry of the Lockdown event as part of Ledbury Poetry Festival Online. The app in its current state deserves one star, but I gave it two just because Genius is so wonderful.when it actually works.Thank you to everyone who has submitted Lockdown poems. Started the app back up, frozen at the home screen, and this time summoning SIRI was no help.įor the past two weeks I’ve wanted to see if there are any good annotations for Deerhunter songs. The app hung with me as I perused four annotations on one song, but when I tried to follow a link to a different song in the fourth annotation, *CRASH*. Today was the first day in ~two weeks that I’ve even been able to get to the search bar, and only then by popping in Siri and then exiting. Problem is, over the last 2 or 3 updates, it’s become a chore to interact with, frequently freezing on the very first screen. I looooooove Genius, a treasure trove of hidden insights into songs you already love and thought you knew, as well as a portal for discovering new music you haven’t had a chance to love yet. Plus it’s a handy guide to the types of issues that in my case at least could be addressed with reinstallation. Great when it works, which isn’t now (ok now it is)Īfter the latest update did nothing to fix Genius’s many issues, i deleted and reinstalled the app, and it’s been working quite well since, so I bumped the rating back up, but I’m going to leave my original review in case said problems come back. Overall the profile tab seems worthless now, but could be better in the future. If you sign into google it takes your google account picture and makes it your profile picture without giving you a way to change it later. They make it out like you can personalize your profile based on your style of music, which seems cool, but is not really the case. When you download the app you can sign into a profile like any other app now but in Genius your profile is almost meaningless. It’s a bummer because i can’t find a way to get around it.ģ. It makes for a cool background but every time i want to make one right before i save it to my camera roll the app decides to crash. There is a feature in the app where in a song you can take a picture given to you from the artist or your own picture and take lyrics from a particular song and put it over the picture. When you watch the videos in the app and you try to flip your device sideways the video will stay in the upright position (even with lock rotation on allowing you to freely move your portrait), which is annoying since the picture is already as small as it is.Ģ. But a few things that are really irritating and annoying are:ġ. I love the interface and the way you navigate throughout the app. Pretty good overall but has some glitches |
